The dramatic site for this new construction was a sloped, wooded lot, which had been part of a larger estate. The home was designed to take advantage of the site including many mature indigenous trees. The double entry gravel driveway, which features a large limestone block bordered circle encompassing a grove of mature oaks, provides a scenic approach to the property. Simple plantings border the house and a Pennsylvania stone walk leads in front of the house, through a metal gate toward the rear of the property. The rear yard contains a series of terraces. The upper terrace stretches out from the wall of glass doors, which forms the back of the house. A series of limestone slab steps leads down to an intermediate level, which features a simple oval pool and grass lawn. A small berm mirrors the backside of the pool, and the property drops again into a mass of evergreen and deciduous trees, which provide a privacy screen from neighboring properties. |
